Quickie: Head up, Hope high!

This message has been sitting in my spirit since this morning so I feel the need to share. I know alot of people are trying to improve their situations/lives right now, and it's tough. Be encouraged, stay inspired, uplift yourself, stay driven! Keep your thoughts on the positive side even when you feel low. As you continue to do this you will notice positive changes in your life because you're attracting them. Remember that you are responsible for your own happiness, and a large part of that depends on your mindset. Also, work on surrounding yourself with positive vibes and uplifting personalities. Be inspirational. You never know who's watching you. Do whatever you have to do to stay uplifted. Good luck to you all!

Your Sister in Grind,
Wilena

P.s., Shout out to my future sis-in-law Yasmin! Girl you inspired the words in this post with your relentless positivity. Keep grinding.

A Verbal Massacre. Brought to you by Kid Fury.

There really isn't much to say about this video besides the fact that Kid Fury is speaking pure, unadulterated truth about the downfall of Kimberly Denise Jones. Lil Kim hasn't been the same since the 90's, and this mixtape fiasco (explained in the video) proves just how desperate she is to get her old glory back, to stay relevant.

This is where Kim lost me:

I love Lil Kim, but she wants folks to pay for a mixtape.
I love Rick Ross, and his "Ashes to Ashes" mixtape was free.
I. Think . You. See. My. Point.

*sigh* Just press play and Let Kid Fury speak this absolute truth. Kim should be listening to this instead of acting like that older chick at work who gets jealous of all the younger, more efficient girls. Pray for her (and Kim).

Because My Hair is Laid...Like Poetry....

Press play to feel the essence, the wisdom, the POWER that is this diva's poetic hair! The poem at the end should be written down and recited daily. Did a wayward bitch come at you, attempting to ruin your day? You can simply turn around and say "Bitch, my hair is LAID!"

Is Kissing Cheating? And The Glorious Apple Scene.

Okay, so the subject is interesting. Is kissing considered cheating? In my book it definitely is an act of disloyalty, but quite a few people seem to disagree. The main excuse seems to be "it's just a kiss. What's the big deal?" Well, I'd say that if it was just a regular peck, I'd be fine. But when you go in like the dude in this video does with the apple, then we have a serious problem. How you figure that's "just a kiss"? Help me understand how you seen innocence in the act of licking the back of someone else's throat besides your significant other? But again, that's just my opinion. Anywho, enjoy the apple scene!

Self Love

Yesterday I saw a video that disturbed me in the oddest of ways. It was a clip from the Wendy Williams Show from her interview with Stacy Dash. Now Stacy Dash is obviously a very beautiful woman, so we would naturally think that she'd have no real issues with her self worth and all. But when she started talking about how she'd never been single since the age of 17 and that she needed a man to define her and to tell her that she was beautiful so that she'd believe it, it shocked the hell out of me. And it got me to thinking. Now she's in her 40's and she's finally starting to love herself and see the light. How long will it take women younger than that to come to that same epiphany?
Lately I've been hearing the same thing over and over. "You need a man." or "You need to get you some", blah blah blah. And time and again I simply shake my head. No, you shouldn't need anything or anyone on that level. You should want it. Never confuse wants and needs, especially where people are concerned. The only human being that you should absolutely want and need, without question, is yourself. Loving and appreciating yourself, taking time to discover and enjoy you, and knowing your self worth are the first steps to having and enjoying healthy relationships with others. It's perfectly okay to be by yourself every once in a while to work on you. When you know your self worth you'll see where you stand with others in your life.
Now if you sit down and do a self evaluation, and notice that your significant other does not hold you in high esteem as you hold yourself or them, then you should address the issue immediately. Tell them that you want to be treated better, that your position should be much higher than what it currently is in their considerations. After all, do you not do the same thing for them all day every day without fail? If they choose to work on that part of the relationship then you should stick it out with them. If they refuse to do so, then they're showing you exactly what time it is. It's perfectly okay to let go if they don't have your best interest in heart. Show others how to love you better by loving yourself better. You will only be given as much love as you give yourself. And if that means that you have to break away from them in order to work on loving you, then so be it. By practicing self love we reclaim ourselves. So many women choose to wrap ourselves and our lives around others. So much so to the point where they lose their sense of self over time. They feel like they simply cannot exist without the other. They feel like they simply will not be whole without the other. But I believe that when you walked into the relationship, you were whole. And when you leave it, you should still be whole. So if you have to take a break to rebuild yourself, to make yourself "whole", then that's fine. In time you'll learn to love that whole that is you.
You are you, and you should love every piece of you. How do you expect others to do so if you don't do it yourself?

Cocky?! Exit. Stage. Left.

I fail to understand something here. Ladies (and Gentlemen) please riddle me this: Is there anything even remotely attractive about assholes? Seriously. I'd really like to know. Let me just jump right into the rant.

When I see a guy being an ass, somewhere in the back of my mind, pure hatred begins to blossom. When I was younger, I used to be attracted to some guys who were complete assholes. But the older I got, the more I saw (and continue to see) that these same men who were so full of "confidence" were nothing more than arrogant, lost and miserable little men looking for someone to overpower so that they can feel better about themselves. One would classify them as bullies, but chances are that if you stand up to them and tell them off one good time, they break way too easily. In fact, it is my personal belief that the bigger the asshole, the more you'll find large amounts of insecurities and shortcomings mixed and congealed together on the inside like pie filling. Maybe he's afraid of women? Maybe he's afraid that you'll walk all over him? Maybe he has a fear of abandonment/closeness? Maybe he has mommy issues? Maybe he has daddy issues? Whatever it is, he's using his ego to cover it up. He's not comfortable in his own skin, and can't exactly live up to the expectations of being considered a Grown Man, nor can he even began to grasp the concept of what it means to be one. Plain and simple. So instead of learning how to be one, he puffs out his little chest and dons a nasty attidude. He fancies himself a "Man" by treating others like shit and considers himself above everybody else. He begins to believe that everything he does and has done in the past will go unpunished. He is, of coarse, wrong, but he won't listen to anybody when they tell him this. He simply refuses to see himself for what he really is. So how is this type of male sexy? I simply fail to understand...
And apparently, so does he...
So therefore I say, I simply cannot stand assholes! And if I see one, I simply turn my head and keep it moving. I want nothing to do with them.

End Rant.

Forgiveness & Forward Motion

Back again with another musing. This time the subject is Forgiveness and progress.

It all started about a week ago. The big bro and I were sitting at the table at his girlfriend's grandparents house, listening to her and her family play dominos while we chit chat. The discussion came to fathers. My brother and I have different fathers, but we were raised by mine. He vented about his deep dislike for both men. I can understand why he was upset about his, seeing as dude abandoned my mother when she had my brother at the age of 15, and claimed that the baby wasn't his when everybody knew otherwise. And on a small scale, I can see why he didn't like my father either. My parents had a rocky marriage, and Dwayne (my dad) was a very strict man, and at times he wasn't exactly loving to Ma or us. But he kept food on the table, clothes on our backs, and a roof over our heads. And even if he wasn't all that nice, he gave extremely good advice, and never lead us astray or lied to us. We both agree that we our grateful for that. But it seems that my brother can't let the bad times go. I have, Ma has, but he's still as angry as ever. Yet he claims to have forgiven Dwayne. I had to give him a gentle reminder that he needs to in order for him to sleep at night. "I am sleeping at night!" he says, in the same tone one would use to defend themselves when they've been caught in a lie. Nidza, his girlfriend's mom, was on her laptop and listening to us, and we hear her say in her cute accent 'it doesn't sound like it to me!"

I couldn't help but laugh. Not only at that, but at the fact that I've realized that for the first time in my life, i feel free. Why? Because I've let a lot of the things, people, and situations that had bothered me so much in the past go. I've learned that you have to. And as i peel the layers and layers of resentment and anguish for people and past events off my spirit, I find that all of the negativity and all of the cruel comments that I'd though I'd brushed off were still there...and that they were all lies. i had to look at myself again and again, to make sure that what I was seeing was real. This new, clean me. Yes, I am not perfect. But I am a whole lot better than I'd ounce thought. And as I examined the lies that I accepted about me from others, I'd realized that dispite what I could do to these people, I had to forgive them no matter what. After doing so, I immediately noticed a change in my life, and blessings gushed forth as if held back by floodgates. My mind became clearer, and I became this happy, optimistic woman-child. I'm an adult of coarse, but I still have a long way to go. For the first time in my life, I'm excited about that journey into complete womanhood. That I would be like those dignified yet carefree and wise older women who seem to know everything about life and chuckle at the young girls/ladies and their clumsiness, guiding then in the right direction. I was excited when I realized that I had completely suffered and overcome my first major heartbreak. I was excited about the fact that I'm actually looking forward to having kids. Whereas before I just thought that babies were cute, but not for me. I'm excited about the fact there will be more struggles and victories coming my way, and that the only way to go is up. I bid you all to feel that same excitement by letting go of the past. We all have issues about ourselves or our lives that we need to deal with. But we can't just keep that baggage and expect to catch the bus on time you get my drift(shoutout to Erykah Badu and her song "Bag Lady"). We have to declutter our lives in order to let the new things come in. Kind of like that show called "Clean House" where they go in, clean out the family's house and get rid of all the old stuff via yardsale and the charity bus, and the profits from the yardsale are used to redecorate the entire house (or however much they can with the money). The same logic applies to your life. However much you're willing to give away, that's how much you'll get back in new opportunities. And thus, growth. Think about that while I soak my feet...

The 4 Letter Word & You

Goodness, I haven't done anything like this in a loooong time!! Let me dust myself off and try to get back in the groove of things with my rhythm-deficient self.

I had to jump on this piece today because of something that was sitting on my spirit and poking it with a toothpick. The subject is simple, yet it is the most complex thing in the world. The subject is Love.

Yes, that four letter word that you either embrace wholeheartedly or draw back from in unearthly disgust. I've been seeing all types of different levels of love and attraction all over the place ever since the new year started. From a close family member talking to me about her newfound romance with a younger guy who's quite simply swept her off her feet, to talking to her sister about her ongoing affectionate feelings for a friend of hers from high school. From reading 1 Corinthians 13 in the Bible, to engagements/marriages, to hearing tales about broken hearts and individuals who are fed up with their partners and moving on. Love, even in the brokenhearted, is all around us. It exist. It's something that gets ahold of each and every one of us at some point in our lives. Some search for it relentlessly. They leave the house thinking to themselves "Who knows? Today just might be the day..." and keep their hearts open and hope high. Some look for it in the wrong places, grow tired of it, and become strict non-believers. Some don't really think about it until kicks them in the chest, and they realize what they've ignored for so long. The list goes on, but one thing's for certain: Love, like shit, happens.

The question then becomes "What will you do when it hits you?" How would you react? To love takes strength and courage. To love someone, even if it's yourself, is to me a testament to your own strength. It puts you through all types of test. Things that you said you'd never do one moment tend to be the very thing you end up doing the next. All in the name of love and devotion. We accept things in ourselves and in or significant others that we normally don't accept in others. We put up with truckloads of shite, all in the name of. And we endure some of the worst pain in our lives when it's dealt by a loved one. And in the end of love, the hardest part is letting go of it. But in the long lesson of love we learn something; Love starts and ends with you. With your acknowledgment, it's allowed to blossom and grow. And with your resignation, it ceases to exist. In the end, we take our lessons and move on about our business. Now to me, all of that takes a considerable amount of strength the go through. I'm just sayin'. Chew on that random musing for a little bit while I paint my nails...
